Welcome to Austral Dental Dental Practice

Root Canal Therapy

A toothache can be one of the most painful dental problems and often won't improve with pain medication alone. If the nerve inside a tooth becomes inflamed or infected, prompt treatment is important to relieve pain and prevent the infection from spreading.

Root canal treatment allows us to remove the infected tissue from inside the tooth, relieve discomfort, and save your natural tooth whenever possible. Once treatment is complete, a dental crown is often recommended to strengthen and protect the tooth, helping restore its function and reduce the risk of future damage.

Are you experiencing persistent tooth pain or sensitivity?
Don't ignore it. Early treatment can often prevent more serious problems. Contact our team as soon as possible so we can assess the cause of your pain and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

What happens during root canal treatment.

  1.  Examination and diagnosis
Your dentist will examine the affected tooth and take any necessary X-rays to assess the extent of the infection. A local anaesthetic is then used to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure.
  2.  Cleaning and treating the tooth
The infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed from inside the tooth. The root canals are then cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and help prevent further infection.
  3.  Restoring and protecting the tooth
Once the canals have been thoroughly cleaned, they are sealed to protect the tooth from future infection. In most cases, we recommend placing a dental crown after root canal treatment to strengthen the tooth and restore its function, as treated teeth can become more fragile over time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@australdental.com.au if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. Root canal treatment is performed under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. It is normal to experience some mild tenderness or soreness around the tooth for a few days afterward, but this can usually be managed with simple pain relief if needed.

Root canal treatment typically requires two appointments. Your dentist will advise on the timeline at your first visit.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance.

A root canal is a dental procedure that is used to remove infected or damaged pulp from inside a tooth. It can help save a tooth from extraction.
